INTRODUCTION

ABS/PA is a blend based on polyamide and ABS. New technology permits the manufacture of this highly stable blend which not only combines the good properties of the individual components but also suppresses disadvantageous properties – such as shrinkage and the lack of low-temperature impact strength in polyamide.

PROPERTIES

The resulting synergistic property profile provides an interesting combination of important product properties: excellent impact strength – including at low temperatures – high surface quality, easy processing, excellent chemicals resistance, good heat resistance, pleasant feel, and attractive acoustic properties.

GRADES AVAILABLE

A range of different grades are available to suit the requirements of individual applications, the material is typically injection moulded or extruded.

APPLICATIONS

ABS/PA is not merely a combination of its constituents – polyamide and ABS. It provides high performance, aesthetic appeal, robustness, and the flowability needed for easy processing. ABS/PA is the right plastic for a very wide variety of automotive applications.

And incidentally: using ABS/PA saves system costs. ABS/PA provides advantages in weight over materials like PC/ABS, and its exceptional surface quality means that it does not necessarily require painting.

Applications using ABS/PA not only look good – they feel good, too. Injection moldings made from ABS/PA give exact reproduction of very finely structured mold surfaces. This property of ABS/PA can be used for products with unsurpassed feel. Finished parts made from ABS/PA are also highly robust – even at very low temperatures.

CURRENT CASE STUDIES:

Automotive

Automotive interior uses of ABS/PA include center consoles, ventilation nozzles, gearshifts, airbag covers, radio covers, glove boxes, and many more.

ABS/PA also has a proven record of success in automotive exterior applications. ABS/PA is found in exterior mirrors, bumpers and integrated front sections.
