Some of the top issues that members of the Packaging Group are currently addressing include:
- Higher materials and energy costs, and increasing members’ dexterity with which these costs can be passed down the chain.
- Influencing attitudes to plastics packaging in terms of their sustainability, product safety, and their value as compared to their cost, amongst all relevant stakeholders including customers, political decision-makers and the media.
- Inputting to the debate on the environmental issues of plastic packaging - and intervening when plastics are unjustly discriminated against by other stakeholders
- Managing cost pressures associated with the implementation of UK Packaging Waste legislation, including inputing relevant points to the various ongoing consultations relating to the UK laws and the EU Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste.
- Maintaining an active awareness of the latest research and development in plastics packaging
- Sustaining a fundamental commitment to address industrial health and safety issues
On plastics packaging issues, the BPF also works closely with affiliated associations including the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) and the Packaging and Industrial Films Association (PIFA).
The BPF is also a member of the INCPEN Trade Association Group to address issues of common concern to a broader range of packaging manufacturing interests.
