The turnover of the UK Moulding industry is estimated to be around £3.5 billion. The industry comprises of some 1,400 Injection Moulders. The majority of these companies (some 57%) have a turnover of less that £1m – see pie chart on the right. Overall growth levels broadly follow the trend in UK Manufacturing. The industry has been hit hard by rising energy/raw materials prices, increased global competition and investment decisions of OEMs. The industry is also faced with a number of concerns, primarily health & safety, shortage of appropriately skilled workers and legislative burden. In this environment, the BPF provides a lifeline to member companies by supporting sales growth, outlining new opportunity and signposting to effective sources of support. |
