The BPF Composites Group is the focal point for the representation of the Composites Industry in the UK with membership including resin and additives suppliers, processors, machinery and equipment suppliers, and research based companies.
The Group works on behalf of its member companies and in careful co-ordination with the broader European Composites Industry.
The BPF Composites Group:
- safeguards and enhances the image of composites and the composites industry with government, non-governmental organisations and the media
- provides advance notice of relevant legislation and lobbies to ensure fairness to composites
- concentrates on market development including the participation in trade shows
- works on technical issues including the formulation of standards through BSI committees
- provides a common platform for information/expertise exchange and resource sharing
The BPF is an active member of EuCIA, the European Composites Industry Association www.eucia.org representing the Composites Group in Europe.
The Chemical Plant Section is a dedicated sub-committee of the Composites Group. It has been crucial in developing standards that fall under the new Pressure Equipment Directive. Members have been working closely with the HSE on updating Guidance Note PM 75, a Best Practice Guide for GRP tanks and vessels.
Recent achievements of the Composites Group include:
- National GRP Federation merges with the Composites Group
- RECCOMP Recycling Project
- BPF Composite Waste Management Seminar
- Input to NPL and NetComposites Foresight Study
- Consultation with UK HSE on styrene and fire information sheets
The group's members also participate through a range of other BPF Committees and Market Sector Groups, benefiting from invaluable networking, shaping policy or simply maintain a watching brief of developments relevant to their business
