PlastEurasia 2008 Report

PlastEuarsia took place 27th - 30th November 2008 in Istanbul, Turkey and the British Plastics Federation coordinated an eight strong group at the show.   The show attracted 30,410 visitors (nearly 4,000 more than the previous year) with 1,018 exhibiting companies from 38 countries.

BPF Attends Manufacturing Summit
On Tuesday 9th December the BPF's Director General Peter Davis raised industry issues at a Manufacturing Summit called by Conservative Party Leader David Cameron MP.

BPF Form Team to Fight Recession
During a speech held at a reception for the 75th Anniversary of the BPF in the EuPC Centre in Brussels, BPF President said BPF President says European Plastics Associations must help companies threatened by recession. Also present at the reception were senior figures from European Plastics Associations and Commission officials.

New Criteria For UKTI Grants Enables More Companies to Apply For Financial Support at Chinaplas and Plastpol
From April 2009 UK Trade and Investment will waive all grants claimed by UK exhibitors (previously set to a maximum of 3).  This will mean all companies meeting UKTI Criteria can claim 6 more grants of upto £1,800 per exhibition. Grants are available for upcoming BPF run British Pavilions at Chinaplas (Guangzhou, China, 18 - 21 May 2009) and Plastpol (Kielce, Poland, 26-29 May 2009)

BPF Comment on Queen's Speech
Local Authorities new power to increase business rates is bad news for plastics' companies says BPF. Not mentioned in the Queen's Speech is the Business Rates Supplements Bill.  This gives Local Authorities from April 2010 the power to levy a local supplement up to 2p per pound of rateable value to the nationally determined Uniform Business Rate, and retain the proceeds for 'economic development'.

BPF Responds to Coverage of ChemTrust Study on 'Gender-Bending' Chemicals
On the 8th December the ChemTrust issued a study entitled 'Effects of Pollutants on the Reproductive Health of Male Vertebrate Wildlife - Males Under Threat'. The report claims that wildlife is being 'feminised' by man-made chemicals in the environment which have hormone disrupting properties. REACH Update: Over 2 million Pre-Registrations submitted by the deadline

The pre-registration phase of REACH officially closed at midnight on 1 December 2008. Over two million pre-registrations were submitted covering more than 100,000 substances. The list of pre-registered substances will be published on the ECHA website by 1 January 2009 and will include the final number of pre-registrations received before the deadline.
