BPF Provide Key Feature at Interplas Show
2008 is a historic landmark in the UK plastics industry's history. Not only is it the 75th Anniversary of Polyethylene but also the 75th Anniversary of the British Plastics Federation - now the longest established plastics association in the world.
|
Interplas itself has its own history of almost 60 years. Building on its profile as manager of the Plastics Section of the British Industries Fair and inspired by the opportunity of the Festival of Britain; the BPF created the first British Plastics Exhibition and Conference at Olympia in 1951 and joined with a commercial partner to stage the event. This evolved into today's Interplas.
The BPF will be building on these strong traditions by unveiling, at Interplas, a timeline of the UK industry's major achievements tracing the history of plastics back to its birth in 1862, with the invention of 'Parkesine', through to future innovations and the role of plastics in the first manned mission to Mars! In addition on the last day of the show there will be a showing, for the first time in over 40 years, of a film commissioned by the BPF to celebrate the centenary of Parkesine 'The Shape of Plastics' (1962), which won the Gold Medal at the Bilbao International Film Festival and was the official British entry at the Moscow film festival. The BPF's Processor Clinic and Material Café (stand L15) will feature leading service providers and material suppliers to the plastics industry. These companies will offer assistance to processors in resolving business issues arising from such areas such as insurance, research & development, quality assurance, design, recruitment and training. Exhibitors in the clinic include quality standard experts IMSM , leading insurance broker Willis Commercial Network , the UK's number one plastics recruitment specialist Listgrove and representatives from 5 leading polymer universities ( Leeds , Bradford , Durham , Sheffield and London Metropolitan University ) Other exhibitors are The Horners , Nanoforce Technology Ltd , Cogent , PICME , Rota Design , Polymer Training Limited , PERA , XJF Plastics Ltd and masterbatch manufacturers Silvergate .
Roderick Hogarth of IMSM comments, "IMSM are strong supporters of both the BPF and Interplas and see Interplas as an excellent opportunity to speak to all sectors of the plastics industry and learn what trends are currently affecting companies". PICME, the UKs leading 'lean-management' specialists will be a key part of the Processor Clinic and they are offering a 50% reduction on Manufacturing Assessments to all BPF members during InterPlas. Commenting Chris Bayliss, Consultant at PICME states: "Our participation at InterPlas is to provide visitors, and the industry as a whole, with real value."
PICME are not the only exhibitors on the BPF stand taking the opportunity to launch new products and offer specialist services to visitors. Listgrove will also be using Interplas to launch their new International Business Division. The division has been set up to handle the company's growing success in the global plastics and packaging sectors and visitors to the Listgrove stand at Interplas, NEC Birmingham, Sept 30-Oct 3 will be able to test for themselves how the company has delivered to an international marketplace. In addition Listgrove's newly developed HR assessment and Development Programmes will also be exhibited at the show.
A major draw on the BPF stand will be the 'Innovation Station' where the BPF will be showcasing some of the R&D projects in which it has been a key partner. This will include European Projects such as PEPTflow , Flowfree , Enerplas and Polycond as well as TSB (Technology Strategy Board) Funded projects like Reheat, Recomp and Capscrap. Kevin Longworth, Industrial Projects Executive commented, "These projects will be of great interest to all visitors to the show and cover all aspects of the industry from practical energy saving advice to high end technical developments".
BPF's Director-General Peter Davis states, "Interplas is the biggest UK Showcase for Plastics Technology in terms of advanced materials, processing machinery and ideas. Whether you are from the shop floor or senior management there will be something of value and interest for you at the show. The BPF has been a proud supporter of Interplas for decades and we look forward to giving visitors a warm welcome on our stand".
