Rotational Moulding Group

The BPF Rotational Moulding Group represents and promotes the interests of all those involved in the rotational moulding process (also known as rotamoulding and rotomoulding) - these include small and large sized moulders, material suppliers, machinery manufacturers, ancillary equipment suppliers and service providers.

The Rotational Moulding Group works to secure a wider appreciation of the potential for rotational moulding and to promote the use of process in a greater range of applications. The Group is involved in a number innovative projects to improve the competitiveness of the industry and harness sales leads.

The Group has produced a downloadable buyers guide in order to promote 'best in class' suppliers for Rotational Moulders.

Benefits of Membership
The BPF Rotational Moulding Group is very active and membership bring with is a number of key benefits:

  • Health and Safety: The Rotational Moulding Group was initially formed in 1978 to address a machinery safety issue through collaborative action, as a result the Group published the Code of Practice for the Safeguarding of Rotational Moulding Machines. Health and Safety Issues remain paramount for the Group and that members recieve timely updates on Health and Safety and are fully briefed on the activity of the newly constituted BPF Health and Safety Committee.
  • Innovation: The Group has strong technical partnership with Queen’s University of Belfast which has a global reputation in rotational moulding technology. The Group is also involved in the PERA-led, EU funded ‘Micromelt’ project which seeks to develop a retrofitable microwave tool heating and an internal mould cooling system, which will reduce energy costs by 70%, reduce processing cycle times by 50% and improve part quality.
  • Sales Lead Development: In 2007 the BPF developed a dedicated online rotational moulding enquiry service. This serves to gather rotational moulding sales leads for the Group in an effective and efficient fashion.
  • Sales and Marketing: To support companies in improving their sales and marketing process in the UK and Overseas by harnessing best-practice information and disseminating expert views.
  • Rotational Moulding Buyers’ Guide: The Group have developed a Rotational Moulding Buyers’ Guide which will be taken by the BPF to trade show and exhibitions across the Globe. The Guide will include information about the services offers by the Group members.
  • International Collaboration: The Rotational Moulding Group was a founder member of ARMO (Alliance of Rotational Moulding Organisations). This year the BPF was responsible for organising the ARMO 2008 Conference, held in Belfast. The Conference was a great success and attracting almost 450 forward thinking rotational moulders from all over the world.
  • International Trade Opportunities: The BPF International Trade Development team are dedicated to developing international networks through signed agreements with international trade associations and various networking forums and ensuring the dissemination of information on foreign markets through our 'Export Support' service.
  • Exclusive Access to European Bodies: The BPF pay membership and regularly attend meetings of EuPC (European Plastic Converters), safeguarding UK interests, extending a lobbying presence in Europe and gathering vital information for our Members.  In addition the BPF is a member of Euromap who provide members with access to details on the plastics markets throughout the world.
Overview of Industry

The UK’s rotational moulding industry is one of the strongest in the EU. With over 70 moulding companies operating in the UK and a further 90 firms providing key services to the sector, ranging from raw materials to design services. As an industry rotational moulding employs about 1500 and now principally serves the storage tank, automotive, furniture, marine, and sports and leisure equipment markets.Rotational moulding differs from other processing methods in that the heating, melting, shaping, and cooling stages all occur after the polymer is placed in the mould, therefore no external pressure is applied during forming. Rotational moulding is often refered to as either rotamoulding or rotomoulding.
