Fire Committee

          
The BPF's Fire Committee is a central expert committee focusing on the role of plastics in accidental fires. The membership of the Committee includes BPF Member Firms, affiliated organisations and external experts. It provides a platform to engage in dialogue with:

• Government Regulators, especially the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister,
• Standard organisations such as  BSI , CEN and ISO,
• Fire testing laboratories such as Warrington Fire Research, BRE and Interscience Communications
• Other stakeholders and other influential parties such as the Fire Brigades Union and the Chief and Assistant Chief Fire Officers' Association. 

               
The Committee focuses on the key issues surrounding:

• lobbying and participation in the development of testing regimes for classification for resistance and reaction to fire under the terms of the EU Construction Products Directive  
• keeping abreast of and consulting on amendments to the UK Building Regulations with relation to fire safety
• expressing concern over the testing and euroclassification of products such as roofs, cables and pipes  
• environmental aspects and impacts of burning plastics and rubber
• representation on IEC, BSI, CEN and ISO standards committees  
• participation in the international conference, Flame Retardants  
• opposition to discriminatory legislation
