The BPF Bottle Blowers Group is a strong networking platform for manufacturers of extrusion and injection blow moulded and injection stretch blow moulded plastics containers. The Group provides crucial networking opportunities to bottle blowers to facilitate collective action and respond to the strategic issues facing our sector The Bottle Blowers Group exists under the umbrella of the BPF Packaging Group, which encompasses all plastic packaging manufacturers and converters in the BPF.

- Responding to aggressive procurement tactics: The Group works to respond to customers’ aggressive procurement tactics, such as increased use of internet reverse auctions, which undermine the value-added aspects of plastic packaging manufacture.
- Responding to increasing material and energy costs: The Group monitors material and energy prices, lobbies wherever possible to reduce these costs and assists the members in coping with price increases and passing these down the chain.
- Influencing attitudes to plastics packaging: Plastics packaging is currently receiving a lot of negative attention in the media. The Group works to improve the image of plastics packaging and disseminate their green and sustainable credentials. The Group inputs to the debate on the environmental issues of plastic packaging and intervenes when plastics are unjustly discriminated against by other stakeholders or the media.
- Managing cost pressures associated with the implementation of UK Packaging Waste Legislation: The Group maintains a watching brief on legislative developments and actively responds to ongoing consultations relating to the UK laws and the EU Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste.
- Positioning the Group at the Forefront of Innovation: The BPF ensures that Group members are briefed on the latest developments in plastics packaging and maintain an active awareness of the latest research and development in plastics packaging. Furthermore, the BPF is involved in a number of plastics R&D projects to reduce energy usage and improve efficiencies.
- Health and Safety: Health and Safety Issues remain paramount for the Group and that members receive timely updates on Health and Safety and are fully briefed on the activity of the newly constituted BPF Health and Safety Committee
- Access to a wider Packaging Network: The BPF is a member of the INCPEN (Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment) Trade Association Group to address issues of common concern to a broader range of packaging manufacturing interests. The BPF works closely with affiliated associations such as PAFA (Packaging and Films Association). Furthermore, the BPF is also very active within the Packaging Federation and work in collaboration on a number of issues.
- Exclusive Access to European Bodies: The BPF is a member of and regularly attends meetings of EuPC (European Plastic Converters), safeguarding UK interests, extending a lobbying presence in Europe and gathering vital information for our Members. In addition the BPF is a member of Euromap who provide members with access to details on the plastics markets throughout the world.
