The show itself proved a great success, with all exhibitors reporting a large number of potential sales leads and making some great connections.
Gareth Joseph, Business Director – AsiaPacific for NDC Infrared Engineering, Inc. commented…
"Our objective in participating in this show was to strengthen our drive into the emerging and developing Viet Nam market, and we were very pleased with the results in terms of meeting some of our customers, our existing industry contacts and meeting new potential customers. The show was for us, a good success."
The show did have an international feel, with a large number of exhibitors from overseas. There were pavilions at the show from Austria, Korea, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and of course the UK. Across the board from the In 216 exhibitors, 21 countries were represented. In addition nearly 10% of visitors came from outside of Vietnam.
Memorandum of Understanding
During the show the BPF forged a very strong relationship with the Vietnamese Plastics Association, who are a very powerful and influential body representing a large proportion of the 2700 plastics companies that exist in Vietnam.
The Vietnamese Association were incredibly welcoming to the BPF and its members and kindly organised factory tours to Duy Tan Plastic Company and Rang Dong Company (which were attended by some member companies) as well as an evening meal for the British Exhibitors which featured a water puppet display (a traditional performing art of Vietnam dating back 100’s of years).
In addition to this the BPF signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Vietnam Plastics Association at a ceremony attended by a number of high ranking Government officials alongside representatives from media outlets from all over the country.

The Vietnamese Plastics Market
A number of exhibitors commented that the market was still at early days of development in terms of investment in high-end machinery and materials, however it was important to be seen in the market now so that when the time does come (in 2-5 years) these companies are seen as the number one choice.
The current market growth is phenomenally impressive with the industry growing on average 20-25% per annum.

The packaging industry is one of great potential and currently accounts for 36.6% of plastics consumption (compared to just 20% in 1995).
| Product Category | 1995 | 2000 | 2005 | 2010 |
| Packaging | 20% | 30% | 30% | 36.6% |
| Construction | 15% | 30% | 30% | 15.6% |
| Consumer | 60% | 25% | 20% | 36.1% |
| Industrial Plastic | 5% | 15% | 20% | 11.7% |
Indeed one visitor to the stand was from one of the largest beer producers in market, a market that is growing 15% per year. The visitor stated that they were currently looking at the possibility of bottling their lagers in plastics bottles.
The plastics sector is actively promoted by the Vietnamese Government and The Ministry of Industry have set up several key investment programmes for the industry up to push up the production of hi-tech industrial plastics and export products whilst developing the plastic recycling industry.
Ho-Chi Minh City (where the show took place) forms the center of the industry alongside the surrounding provinces and cities such as Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Long An, and Ba Ria Vung Tau. Between them these regions account for 80 percent of plastics production.
State owned companies are still very powerful and although they now only make up 6% of the plastics companies, they represent about 20% of the total capital invested in the industry.
