Recovinyl recyclers to exhibit at BPF PVC event

Recovinyl-accredited PVC recyclers will be exhibiting for the first time at a British Plastics Federation one-day seminar on October 2nd in support of the UK forum’s focus on sustainability within the UK PVC industry.

PVC Recycling Ltd, vinyl flooring manufacturer Polyflor, PVC –U profile manufacturer Veka and plastics recycler UKBF will be showcasing novel applications for recycled PVC, including its use in new windows, flooring and building products, at the event to be held at the Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester.

Entitled ‘PVC – The Positive Sustainable Procurement Choice’, the day is of particular interest to specifiers and PVC product sales and marketing professionals. Among the expert speakers will be Francois Clement, Assistant Principal of Populous delivering an architect’s view on the sustainable use of plastics in construction and PVC in sports architecture.

Other topics will range from PVC recycling to energy saving and sustainable procurement. Delegates can also learn more about voluntary industry commitments securing the future of PVC products and current issues relating to the material’s use in everyday life.

Among the speakers is Jane Gardner, Senior Consultant at Axion Consulting and the UK agent for Recovinyl. She said: “With demand growing for greater recycled content in new PVC products, Recovinyl recyclers have a key role to play in supplying these markets.

“This event presents a valuable opportunity for specifiers to find out more about exciting developments in the re-use of PVC and its sustainable procurement across a wide variety of applications,” added Jane.

Philip Law, BPF Public & Industrial Affairs Director, commented: “The BPF's Vinyls Group seminar will present the leading edge of PVC sustainability and we are delighted that considerable added value will be provided by an adjoining exhibition which will focus on the major recycling achievements accomplished under the Recovinyl banner.”

Also speaking will be Stefan Eingartner, Leadership Consultant, Vinylplus; Dr Jason Leadbitter, Sustainability and Compliance Manager, INEOS Chlorvinyl; Roger Mottram, Environmental and Regulatory Affairs Manager, INEOS Chlorvinyl and Sarah Plant, Senior Executive - Industrial Issues, British Plastics Federation.

Recovinyl is the PVC industry’s recycling scheme and also an initiative of VinylPlus, the new ten-year Voluntary Commitment of the European PVC industry, which is tackling the sustainability challenges for PVC and delivery of fresh recycling targets to 2020. These targets include 800,000 tonnes to be re-used in all European countries by 2020 - with 700,000 tonnes mechanically recycled and the rest using new technologies for more difficult-to-recycle or contaminated PVC.
