Act Now to Join the BPF Climate Change Agreement

Over 100 company sites have now successfully registered for the BPF Climate Change Agreement for Plastics Processing (BPF CCA) and collectively will receive discounts of £32 million on their Climate Change Levy over the course of the Agreement.

Company sites that have already had their applications approved will start to receive their discount as of the Agreement’s start date, 1st October 2009. It is not too late to join the BPF CCA, but companies wishing to do so must act immediately. Strict deadlines have been put in place by the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and unless site applications are received by DECC before the 31 October 2009 they will not be able to join the scheme until 1 April 2011. In order to achieve the deadlines set by DECC, completed site applications (PP4s) must be sent to the scheme administrators, Inenco, by 23rd October 2009. Applications received before this date will be eligible to start receiving discounts this year, once they have been processed by DECC.

BPF Director-General, Peter Davis says:

‘This is a unique opportunity for the plastics industry and I urge all plastics processors that have not yet prepared their application to do so now and thereby  ensure that they too will reap the benefits’.

For companies with a qualifying site in the UK the agreement can result in a discount of up to 80% on their Climate Change Levy (CCL) paid on electricity and LPG.  A further benefit of joining the agreement is that eligible companies may avoid the potentially onerous obligations of the Climate Reduction Commitment. The CCA will be especially attractive to companies consuming in excess of 250,000 kWh per annum.

The Agreement will commit companies’ sites to a reduction in relative energy consumption of 12% from the base year 2006 to 2010. The target applies to all energy used by sites, although the Levy reduction will only apply to electricity and LPG.

Companies wishing to join the CCA must go to  www.bpfenergy.co.uk or call the CCA Helpline on 01253 785 069

BPF members companies will receive a further benefit of a 50% discount on their CCA Partner fees.
